Museums and Collections (MaC) Self-review
The self-review is intended to prompt your group’s thinking about what you do in regard to keeping and telling history, the role you play in your community, how you interact and engage with your audiences, where your organisation is heading and what you are doing to get there.
The sections in the self-review reflect the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries (NSAMG) and so by completing it you are considering your organisation, collections and activities through the lens of these standards.
The History Trust uses what you tell us in the self-review to check that your organisation is eligible to be involved in MaC and to provide some feedback. Feedback is geared towards establishing a purposeful relationship with your organisation and may include suggestions for skills development opportunities, resources you may find useful, planning or project assistance, or suggestions for making an application to the MaC grant fund.
Undertaking the Self-review
There’s no right or wrong responses and different perspectives are valuable. The review process will be most effective if it is completed as a small group and takes a holistic view of your organisation’s activities relating to history and collections.
Each section of the self-review gives a lead-in statement to ‘set the scene’, followed by a prompt to respond to. To help get your responses started each section includes a short list of ‘things you may like to consider’ in making your response. Try to include several examples of what you are doing or planning relevant to each section. Each example need only be a sentence or two, but you are welcome to tell us more.
To complement the self-review you are also asked to provide:
• Organisation summary
• Copy of constitution or other document that shows how the organisation is managed and run
• Signed statement from your organisation’s management/committee confirming agreement to undertake the self-review.
