Artist Blacksmith Association of South Australia

The Artist Blacksmiths Association South Australia (ABASA) was formed in 2008 to provide support, to further training, to share skills and provide communication and networking opportunities for our members and interstate colleagues.

ABASA Inc. currently has over 50 members ranging from beginners to very experienced blacksmiths.

We welcome anyone interested in the craft of blacksmithing, who are interested in practising, learning and sharing the knowledge of blacksmithing, in all its forms. Please join us in promoting the art of the blacksmith and educating the public about our craft. We run workshops at our forge in Penfield, located on the grounds of the Penfield Sports Association on Woomera Ave, Edinburgh.

ABASA has a close link with other societies in the state, including the Angaston and Penrice Historical Society, Scholz Park Museum at Riverton, the National Trust at Burra and more recently, the Mannum Dock Museum.

These locations possess blacksmith forges of historical significance and are open on weekends and public holidays. ABASA members have been involved in the running of these forges alongside the societies’ members. This provides our members with the unique experience of forging with equipment that has been around since settlement in South Australia.
