Singer Car Club of SAtill 14th June 2008
The Singer Car Club’s display includes the following vehicles: · A 1935 1100c Saloon which was restored in Western Australia and brought to S. A. for the Singer Car Centenary in 2004. It has been extensively rallied and taken part in Bay to Birdwood, All British Days and the Australia Day Parades. · A 1949 A Series 1074c Roadster which was the first of the Roadsters exported from England after the second world war. The next model in 1950 was the 4A with independent front suspension and in 1952 became the 4AD with a 1500c engine known as the SM Roadster. This Roadster has a beam axle with one or two improvements. This car has been restored by Moss Upton and Brian Graeber of Lobethal over a period of twenty years. Brian is the last of the original Singer Dealers. · A 1934 Le Mans 4c OHC Twin Carb. 972cc two Seater. The Singer Le Mans model was produced to celebrate the success of the Singer Works team that had competed at the 1933 Le Mans 24 hour race. Several cars identical with this one entered and the team leader completed 2203kms in the 24 hours averaging 91.8 km/hour becoming the first car under one litre to complete this demanding race. This particular car was restored 30 years ago by Robert Holmes a’Çourt. The car was reportedly entered into the Pebble Beach (USA) Concorse de Elegance and enjoyed a class win. It was exhibited in a’Çourt’s Heytesbury Museum until his death.
