Crawford Gallery

Sidney Crawford Gallery

Sidney Crawford (1885-1968) was a significant contributor to the South Australian Automotive Industry and a generous public benefactor.  He was Commissioner and Chairman of the SA Harbours Board from 1932-1965 and a founding member of the South Australian Transport Control Board in 1930. In 1921 Sidney Crawford opened Adelaide Motors Ltd and the All British Motors House.  Despite world wide economic depression Sidney founded Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) in 1934.  In 1946 he established the CMV Charitable Foundation.

Since its foundation the CMV Group has grown to be the largest privately owned South Australian retail motor group, covering the sale of Toyota cars and commercials, Lexus, Chrysler Jeep, Mitsubishi, Kenworth Hino and Volvo Trucks.   It also has a number of retail truck dealerships in Melbourne and Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.

The Company has a significant agricultural investment including almonds, pistachios and vineyards in South Australia and Victoria.   CMV has been a major sponsor and supporter of the National Motor Museum.

The Sidney Crawford Gallery was opened on 5 December 1998 and houses large commercial vehicles such as a road train, fire engines, street sweeper and tipper truck.
