Vision, Hope and Life - Greek migration stories

Presented by the Organisation of Hellene and Hellene-Cypriot Women of Australia (SA) Inc

 15th February 2008 - 30 May 2008

panelsA rich and vibrant exhibition Vision, Hope, Life explores the experience of a number of Greek migrants from the nineteenth century through to the current day. Against the background of an overarching migration history OEEGA present moving personal stories which draw out what the migration experience meant for individuals.

Featured in the display are photos, traditional embroidery, costume, household items, a travelling trunk and dowry items. Through these intimate objects the exhibition draws out cultural traditions that have continued through waves of Greek migrants in different periods of South Australia’s history.

panelsOEEGA examine both what has remained the same, what has changed, and the importance of cultural identity to many Greek migrants.

‘Greece is my country of origin and I love it, but Australia is my new country and my home now.’
