Survivors
A constructivist approach to exploring refugee issues
25 August – 19 September 2008

Through an interactive, guided role-play set in two hypothetical countries; students explore the circumstances which create refugees, the laws that govern their fate and the decisions, dilemmas and perspectives of each of the groups involved.

Comedy workshop

How does your culture affect your views? How does it affect your sense of humour? Who is an Australian? Are some Australians more Australian than others?
Leading comedians of diverse cultural backgrounds share their perspectives, with plenty of laughs along the way. Is cultural identity a laughing matter? Absolutely!
The program will include a performance and a question & answer session with the artists.

The Woman’s Journey
Travel through the Migration Museum’s new 20th and 21st Century galleries to look at the immigration, refugee and settlement experience from the points of view of women who have come to live in South Australia.

Bustles, crinolines, corsets. What can these items of clothing tell us about the role of women at any particular time in history?
Years 8-12
Explore the way fashion has been used to define women's role in western society. Wearing curatorial gloves, students handle historical items of clothing to better understand how they were used to customise the body.

Greek immigrants began arriving in South Australia as early as 1842. Why did they come here? Where did they settle? What contributions have they made to South Australian society?
