Tinline Salver

This salver was presented to George Tinline in recognition of his work in the financial crisis 1851-52. The pictures on the salver tell the story. Farm workers leave for the Victorian gold fields, George Tinline presents the Governor with the Bullion Act, the gold escort arrives and the gold is weighed. By offering higher prices for gold in South Australia Tinline was able to resurrect the economy at a time when the future of the colony was in doubt. This salver uniquely documents an important point in South Australia’s history.
