Rosary

This small, string rosary and cotton armband belonged to Mr Marian Szcezepanowski. During the Second World War Mr Szcezepanowski was a prisoner at Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The arm band identified him as a political prisoner. The rosary was made and kept hidden by Mr Szcezepanowski. It represented his deep faith, and his belief that he would live.

Mr Szcezepanowski could have been punished, or even killed, if the Nazi guards had discovered this simple object. Yet he kept it, and he survived. Today it reminds us of one person’s courage and belief through terrible experiences.
