The Migration Museum Foundation

Migration Museum Foundation Logo

The Migration Museum Foundation was set up in 2000 by Mr Alec Gardini, the Hon. Julian Stefani and the Migration Museum director, Ms Viv Szekeres, as a tax-exempt Incorporated Association.

The Foundation exists as a membership based fund to support the various initiatives of the Museum through deployment of interest earned on the gradually expanding principle, now totalling around $500,000.

The Foundation is managed by a Committee of 10 persons including the Director of the Migration Museum and a member of the Board of the History Trust of SA.  Currently The Foundation has 1539 Members and has raised $506,640 since its inception in 2000.

Foundation Membership Programs

Some of the most successful and colourful fundraising activities at the Migration Museum come under the heading of the Foundation Membership Programs, including several very enjoyable and satisfying ways of engaging the vital participation of the South Australian Community.  Ranging from simple registration on the Foundation Database to ‘bundled’ packages of benefits, the Museum offers the following modes of acknowledgment for differing levels of support:

Foundation Database

Contributions of less than $300 are acknowledged with the donor’s family history recorded on the Foundation Database, which is available to the public.

Settlement Square

A donation of $300 entitles the donor to be acknowledged with one paver, or a donation of $500 entitles the donor to be acknowledged with two pavers, which is added to Settlement Square in the courtyard of the Migration Museum.

Pavers

Each paver is engraved with the name nominated by the donor, place of origin and year of arrival.  Donors will have their family history recorded on the Foundation Database. They will also receive a Foundation Certificate of Appreciation.

Foundation Donors Board

·         A variety of benefits are offered to donors of $1,000 and above, including:

·         Tax deductibility as a gift to a Charity/Foundation

·         Donors name/s recorded on the Donor’s Board in the Museum’s foyer

·         One or more pavers installed in Settlement Square with personal or company details

·         The story of the business or family history recorded on the Foundation Database.

Benefits to donors of $1,000 to $5,000:

Tax deductibility as a gift to a Charity/Foundation; Donors name/s recorded in silver on the Donor’s Board in the Museum’s foyer; one paver installed in Settlement Square with their personal or company details; the story of their business or family history recorded on the Foundation Database.

Donor Board

Benefits to donors of $5,000:

Tax deductibility as a gift to a Charity/Foundation; Donors name/s recorded in gold on the Donors Board in the Museum foyer; several pavers installed in Settlement Square with their personal or company details; the story of their business or family history recorded on the Foundation Database; the company logo will also be displayed on the main menu screen of the Settlement Square Database; Many other benefits are available to sponsors of  $5,000 and over.

Communities are a major resource and audience for the Migration Museum, and the great strength of these fund raising initiatives is that they perform and express the true mission of the Museum while harmoniously addressing financial necessities.  Happily, they have also been a great success, with the pavers in Settlement Square in particular becoming a popular focus within the museum, much more rapidly than expected.

These ‘recordings’ of the truly human stories of South Australian Migrant Settlers within the Museum represent a unique opportunity to acknowledge, learn from and celebrate both the shared experiences and the exceptional achievements that have shaped the very fabric of our society.
