Working with the Community

Communities are a major resource for the Migration Museum, and the Museum is a resource for communities. As well as keeping objects and information the Museum acts as a place for communicating South Australian communities’ histories. One of the main vehicles for this is through the Forum, the Commonwealth Bank Community Access Gallery. In addition staff often consult community members when researching exhibitions. The Museum can be a place of remembrance, through projects such as the Memorial Wall,  a community initiative housed at the Museum.

Working with the Community

Over the years communities have supported and contributed to the Migration Museum in many ways, including through donations of objects and photographs. The Museum has consulted community groups in the development of projects such as the Communities Database.

Accessed at the Museum this database provides extensive information on the different ethnic and cultural groups that make up South Australia. Community groups continue to work with Museum staff in areas such as the development of education programs presented to a range of school children every year.
