Adelaide Hill Motor Restorers Club Display

Media Release - June 2007
Images to accompany release

Sunday 8 July 2007 will see the opening of a display by the Adelaide Hills Motor Restorers Club at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. The display is in the Museum’s ‘Club Space’ - a specially designated area in which clubs and other organisations are given the opportunity to tell the story of their members’ vehicles.

The Adelaide Hills Motor Restores Club was formed in 1984 by a group who shared a common interest in preserving machinery of our past. The absence of the word ‘vehicles’ in the club title is deliberate in as much as the club caters for all forms of motive power ranging from vehicles such as cars, trucks, tractors, motor bikes, etc, to stationary engines and the endless list of machinery which they powered. Membership is open to anyone who shares these interests, whether or not they own vehicles, engine, or machinery.

The display, on show until 13 October 2007, will feature:

·          1948 Morris 10 “M” Series - Owner: Ben & Lorraine Wye of Hahndorf. This is virtually the last of this shape for Morris; the Morris Minor came out in the same year and continued for many years.

·          ESSEX 1923 Four Cylinder - Owner: Ron Coward. Modeled on a 1924 Roadster. Especially built for R.B. Jackson, the President of Hudson/Essex.

·          JAGUAR  MK VIII - Owner: Richard Waddington. This example is fitted with a 3.4 litre double overhead cam cylinder motor and was new in South Australia in 1959.

·          1925 Federal Knight Truck – Owner: Ray and Jeanette Mossop, Adelaide. The Federal Truck Company was purchased by John North Willys of the Willys Overland Company. The trucks were fitted with a four cylinder Willys Knight sleeve-valve engine and a three speed gear box.

·          HERCULES PORTABLE FARM ENGINE (1923) - The Hercules engine is a single cylinder hopper cooled engine where cooling water is held in the hopper above the cylinder. The engine was manufactured by the Hercules Gas Engine Co of Evansville, Indiana USA in 1923.  At 425 RPM the engine is rated at 5HP (horse power). The engine on display was found in Daylesford, Victoria in 1987 in a totally dismantled and rusted condition. After 18 months of extensive sand-blasting, making of new parts, painting and polishing it was given its first run as a restored engine in 1989.  It has given faithful service ever since.
