Genealogy

GenealogyA vital first port of call for the family historian is the Museum’s database gallery where you will find records of the arrival of vessels and passengers to South Australia.

Genealogy archives, newspapers and passenger lists are drawn upon to form a comprehensive index of nineteenth century immigration from 1836 - 1859 and 1860 - 1899, and twentieth century passenger arrivals from 1915 - 1939 and 1940 - 1956.

Records generally show name, age, occupation, as well as date and vessel of arrival. Details from Lloyds Register describe the vessel along with information on the particular voyage. Some vessel images are also available.

Cruise our computers and fish up your lost relations.
