Farewell to Sails

Temporary Online Exhibition

PamirThe windjammers Passat and Pamir left South Australia’s Port Victoria on 28 May 1949 loaded with grain for Europe. They were the last commercial sailing ships to ply one of the world’s longest trade routes.

The ships were based in Finland’s Aland Islands and the Aland Maritime Museum has produced this exhibition to mark the 60th anniversary of that last voyage. It is being exhibited in 11 museums in Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

The South Australian Maritime Museum is marking the occasion by hosting the exhibition on its website.
