SA War Conference - The Great War and its Aftermath

2nd - 4th August 2006

The History Trust of South Australia hosted its second Free Conference in August 2006.

 The Great War and its Aftermath:  South Australia1914-1928

The conference focused on life in South Australia, during the war and in the decade that followed.
Topics included:

  • The impact of war on everyday life
  • Returned soldiers and the soldier settler schemes
  • Urban expansion and town planning
  • War and the German community
  • The first Anzac Day and the development of Anzac memorials
  • Immigration and the immigrant experience
  • And many other aspects of South Australian life in this turbulent period
