The Politics of Democracy in South Australia

The History Trust of South Australia and the State Electoral Office hosted The Politics of Democracy in South Australia conference on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 March 2007. The conference was part of a program of events to mark 150 years of democracy in South Australia. One hundred and fifty delegates came together to hear 25 papers reflect on the past, present and future of South Australia’s democracy, and to participate in stimulating discussion.  Also canvassed were a number of proposals for change to the State’s electoral and Parliamentary systems. On the evening of 8 March Hon Justice John Perry AO presented a stimulating public lecture on the role of the law in preserving democracy.

Papers from the conference, including Justice Perry’s lecture, will be available in two formats: electronic and audio file.

Please note that the views expressed in these papers do not necessarily reflect those of the History trust of South Australia or the State Electoral Office.

Papers will be made available as supplied by conference presenters.
