Every South Australian community has at some time and in some way been touched by the wars that Australia has been involved in.

All experiences of war are different and shaped by the way particular communities participated in and chose to commemorate war, as well as the external factors which influenced them.

Sharing Their Legacy revealed that all experiences of war are unique and valuable.  By focusing on local history communities can find their place in the war heritage of the nation.  The scope and variety of local stories and experiences is very revealing about wartime Australia – attitudes, personal experiences, community activity, loss.

Sharing Their Legacy produced 17 unique war heritage projects.  Along the way the participating groups uncovered and recorded new historical evidence about their communities' experiences of war.  They also benefited from the collaboration and networking opportunities built into the overall project concept and the opportunity to learn and practice historical skills of research, writing, oral history and display preparation.

Come and discover some of their stories.
