Grader, Medium

Photographs by TSA (Crystal Brook).

A medium sized grader with two axles and four steel wheels manufactured c1940s. Originally drawn by a horse team and later by a crawler tractor. Dimensions are 5.8 x 2.4 x 2.3 m.

Built by Armstrong-Holland of Sydney and Melbourne the steel grader Machine No 2160 was purchased by the District Council of Port Pirie for road-making in their area. The grader was later operated by ‘Darkie’ Young of Warnertown whose family subsequently donated it to the Highways Department. It now stands in the office gardens of the Crystal Brook depot.
